Sleep-work-school, it's a bland trio and sometimes changing the scenery does so much good. Students of Montreal, I present to you my best coffee shops for studying!
I don't know about you, but for me, settling down in a bright space with a good coffee is one of my favorite activities. I find myself much more productive in my work when I'm not in my room. Recently, I published an article about the ideal coffee shops for studying in Quebec City. Although our offices are in Quebec, we often go to Montreal. So this time, we present our favorite coffee shops conducive to study sessions, reading, and revision in the great Metropolis.
From its inception, Saint-Henri has aimed to democratize specialty coffee. With 8 locations in Quebec and over 10 years of experience, the people behind Saint-Henri are passionate. Experts who impart their knowledge in every cup served.
The place has everything to please: a calm spot to settle in and chat with friends, or open your books and work on your session's assignments. They offer an assortment of alternative milks: soy, oat, macadamia nut, you name it! And to top it all, they serve delicious fresh artisanal donuts! We love the place so much that in 2020, we even wrote a blog article about them.
Clearly one of our favorite spots in Montreal, the Crew is a breathtaking architectural and historical café. This café, set in an old bank, is open to the public and offers a coworking space, meeting and conference rooms, private offices, and a venue for private events. And, the coffee is really delicious!
One downside: the café is quite internationally renowned (notably due to an article in Forbes), so it can be quite busy, especially during the summer period.
The "café buvette" Petit Dep is a charming café and convenience store located in Griffintown. The café supports Quebec artisans by offering a wide variety of local products.
Tommy is a classic. With its 7 locations, if you wander around Montreal a bit, there's a good chance you'll come across one (or several) along your way. It's a perfect place to work on emails or update your to-do list. We don't suggest it for settling down if you have several books to open since the spaces are quite limited normally. Just bring your laptop and your best friend, and you'll have a great time!
With their warm welcome and attention to detail, Café Léo was quickly adopted as the favorite coffee shop of the Latin Quarter in Montreal.
It's located right next to UQAM, by the way.
Café Hélico is a charming little spot where you can enjoy excellent pastries and good coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. Nearby, you can also find @canardcafe, which is great for studying.
At Café Chez l’Éditeur, calm prevails. It’s filled with bookshelves and books! It is THE place for reading, studying, and working. Additionally, if you're disappointed by last night's date, don't hesitate to find something better in a romance novel (you don't need to be a literary buff to invite yourself to the publisher's). The wonderful teams of Québec Amérique and Editions Cardinal are behind this project.
If you're in an exam period and need a long study session, this is the ideal place for you. L’Anticafé offers a formula where you only pay for the time spent at the café. You pay a fixed amount per hour or for the entire day, making your consumption free! It's a cost-effective option for students. The space is arranged perfectly for team work. You can also rent private spaces for a more enjoyable study session. Occasionally, L'Anticafé offers drawing workshops for a mind-refreshing break.
For those on the South Shore, Café Pistache is a small coffee shop that's ideal for avoiding a metro trip into Montreal on weekends. Though small, it offers an enjoyable experience, especially with its terrace seating available in the early part of the session.
For students on the North Shore of Montreal, this is another great spot to focus. Whether you're working alone or in a team, the place is perfect. With large tables, sofas, reading chairs, and solo tables, it offers all the options to ensure comfort during your revisions. The enchanting decor makes it 100% the place for students. It's recommended to arrive early or after lunch on weekdays as it's often busy around noon, being located near a CEGEP.
If you're looking for a coffee break escape from your studies, I highly recommend heading over to Pastel Rita café. Not only is the café's decor adorable and all pink, but it's also super peaceful if you need a little break between assignments.
